Local municipalities and the state of Pennsylvania have been increasingly interested in protecting our sewer systems, waterways and general land mass from erosion. Silt fencing around new construction homes is now required. Protecting stream banks, detention ponds and drainage swails from picking up soils and depositing them elsewhere has become priority. According to the US EPA, construction site storm water runoff annually results in the loss of roughly 20-150 tons/acre of soil and attached pollutants.
What services can we offer to control erosion? Seeding for vegetative growth, protecting that seeding with erosion-resistant blankets and mats made from wood fiber and/or straw, or jute mesh. We also construct rip-rap embankments and coir logs for bank stabilization and vegetation growth. (Coir logs are made from interwoven coconut fiber, into which are placed herbaceous plants, providing an excellent growing medium and opportunity for vegetation to take hold on a bank). The Showcase Group also installs silt fencing.
How serious are we about erosion control? Our staff will be achieving "certified" status by Filtrexx in 2007, which means our erosion control installation will meet the standards for NPDES Phase II Compliance.
